Welcome to our Derwent Online Shop
Derwent Pencils are British made pencils that were first produced in 1832, when graphite was discovered in the Lake District, in Borrowdale Valley. This led to the Cumberland Pencil Company being created in 1916, with the very first Derwent colouring pencil being manufactured in 1938. Since then, Derwent have been making a huge range of traditional graphite, sketching, coloured and water-soluble pencils, as well as introducing new innovative products for professional artists, beginners and hobbyists.
For generations, artists have chosen and trusted the Derwent brand for pencils and art supplies. Derwent work with artists to produce the highest quality pencils and to continually develop new products. Here at Pullingers, you can buy Derwent pencils in singles, metal tins and beautiful wooden box sets. We stock graphite pencils for sketching and drawing, charcoal pencils and blocks, tinted charcoal pencils, pastel pencils, colouring pencils, including Coloursoft, Lightfast and Procolour, watercolour pencils, Inktense pencils and blocks. Derwent Graphite Sketching Pencils
Derwent produce a great selection of graphite products that are suitable for drawing and sketching. Whether you are a child, beginner, student, hobbyist or artist, you need to start with a decent pencil and we recommend Derwent Graphic Pencils. They are available in 20 different grades of softness, from a 9B to 9H. You can buy Derwent graphic pencils individually or in sets of soft, medium and hard. 9B is the softest drawing pencil and gives the darkest shade of graphite, where as the 9H is the hardest pencil, producing the lightest shade. Artists tend to use the medium to soft sketching pencils, often sketching the initial drawing with a B or 2B pencil. Hard graphite pencils are best for technical drawing as they can be sharpened to a finer point for precision.
If you want another way to easily blend graphite pencils, then you may be interested in the water-soluble graphite range by Derwent. Choose from individual Derwent Watersoluble Sketching Pencils or Derwent Graphitint Pencils if you want a bit of colour. Graphitint pencils consist of 24 subtle coloured graphite pencils from soft greys, blues and greens to russets, plums and browns. Use them dry to give a small tint of colour to your sketch or add water to make the colour become more vibrant.
Derwent Charcoal Pencils
Charcoal was one of the earliest drawing materials ever used and is still extremely popular today. Derwent Charcoal Pencils are made from natural charcoal particles mixed with the finest clays and encased in cedar wood barrels. These high-quality artists pencils come in a light, medium and dark shade, to produce a wide tonal range from the lightest of greys to the deepest of blacks. Charcoal pencils are great for achieving fine detail. If you are looking to cover large areas with charcoal, then look at the Derwent Compressed Charcoal Blocks.
If you want to add a hint of colour to your charcoal drawings, use Derwent Tinted Charcoal Pencils. Available in 21 single colours and tins of 12 or 24.
Derwent Watersoluble Pencils
Watercolour pencils give you the control of a pencil with the beauty of watercolour. You can use them dry like a colouring pencil or add water to create watercolour effects.
