Michael Harding Non-Absorbent Acrylic Primer can be used to quickly prime a canvas and other surfaces, making it ready for painting with oils. It produces a surface that is luscious and moist in appearance and will provide a strong bond to the layers of paint applied over the top.
This high quality, quick drying acrylic primer will give you a fine tooth and is non-absorbing. It gives a long-lasting support that will not decay over the years and is lightfast.
You can use it on cotton canvas, linen, wood, MDF and other supports to produce a strong, flexible, permanent, highly pigmented ground. It is suitable as a ground for both acrylic and oil paint.
For best results, we recommend that you apply 2 coats. The first coat can be diluted with 25% water to increase the flow and coverage if required. Wait approximately 1 hour before applying the second coat (the first should be touch dry).
If you require a finer tooth, mix it with some marble dust.
Please note that this primer is not a gesso (traditional gesso is made from rabbit skin glue and chalk).
